In Vedic astrology, remedial measures are used as a means of balancing, or harmonizing planetary influences. In the ancient Vedic scriptures, five main measures were given as ways to alleviate the effects of the planets on an individual.

Gemstones
The most popular of the remedial measures, planetary gemstone therapy is now gaining much interest in the West. Different gemstones receive their potencies from the cosmic energies of different planets, therefore having different effects on the wearer.

Mantras
The yoga of sound, mantras are a combination of sacred syllables, which form vibrational healing energies. Vedic astrology utilizes mantra to propitiate ill effects caused by weak, or malefic planets. Planetary mantras are given for those who require them with full life readings.

Austerities
Ornate, complicated penances and austerities are described in the ancient Vedic texts.
For this age these have certainly become impractical to perform. Finding a priest that can perform the correct ritual would be challenging to say the least. Therefore we feel in this day and age impractical.

Charity
Another remedial measure is the act of giving in charity to worthy recipients. An expert astrologer, also in knowledge of correct spiritual principles in this regard, can give recommendations for this.

Yantras
Yantra, sometimes known as sacred geometry is a pictorial equivalent of Mantra. Yantra is an instrument, talisman or mystical geometrically perfect diagram. In a Vedic astrological chart each planet is said to have a beneficial or harmful effect. Yantra, used in conjunction with mantra, can remove their malefic and increase their beneficial aspect.

The path of mantra and yantra is much more difficult to realize beneficial results through (materially speaking) than is the science of gemstone therapy. By obtaining a proper natural gemstone correctly set and installed with specific mantras, it will on its own act to ward off malefic (negative) planetary influences and attract benefic (positive) ones. Although always helpful, it is not necessary to continually perform worship of the gem (except initially) or chant the mantras after the initial installation, yet it will still have a constant protective influence. Mantras and yantras must be used with the utmost care, dedication and spiritual energy through regular puja and chanting to be effective.
